SOWMA Soils Day

On July 23rd, SOWMA hosted a Site and Soils Evaluation Field Day in the Saskatoon region with a fantastic mix of contractors, certification students, Saskatchewan Health Authority inspectors, and Environmental Public Health Inspectors.

After days of rain and smoke, the skies finally cleared for a beautiful day of hands-on learning. Participants gained valuable experience in site inspections and designing systems for challenging conditions and soils. The workshop focused on assessing soil structure and texture, evaluating site conditions and constraints, logging field data, and applying that knowledge to the design of onsite wastewater systems.

A huge shout-out to the incredible onsite wastewater community in Saskatchewan for helping make this event a success!

A huge thank you to Souris Valley Industries (1977) Ltd. for sponsoring this event.

Participants took the opportunity to get hands-on experience evaluating a site, as well as practicing hand texturing and sampling.

Additional thanks to:

  • Aleena Pawlik (Imagine Contracting) and Jennifer Lang (SOWMA Board of Directors/Anderson Pump House) for facilitating  the training.
  • Aurora Mechanical for donating the site
  • M & L Backhoe Services for excavating the test pits
  • Saskatchewan Research Council for spending the day with us and reviewing lab procedures

We’re so grateful for the support and collaboration that made this event possible!
