SOWMA held their belated Annual General Meeting via Zoom webinar on the evening of October 29, 2020. The brief meeting reviewed activities from 2019 and outlined plans for the balance of 2020 and into early 2021. The financial reports for the previous fiscal year were presented and ratified. While most of us don’t pay attention to what happens after our toilets flush, scientists and researchers at the Wisconsin State Hygiene Lab are tracking it down and collecting samples of it. The team is collecting wastewater samples from 67 locations around the State of Wisconsin. They’re looking for the the genetic material that causes COVID-19.

The N.W.T. government is getting ready to start regular surveillance of wastewater in some communities within the territory to identify the presence — or absence — of the coronavirus, according to a news release Thursday. The program will collect samples of wastewater from Hay River, Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, and Inuvik. Learn more here.
