Persons that currently have an Alberta Private Sewage Certificate of Competency (PS ticket) must successfully complete an Update Training Course on the Alberta Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice 2015. The update training must be successfully completed by March 31, 2017. After that date, a person who has not completed the update training will not qualify for renewing a Private Sewage Certificate of Competency.
The 2015 Standard of Practice was adopted by Alberta Regulation and came into force January 1, 2016. The 2015 Standard of Practice reflects substantial changes from the 2009 Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice. Certified Installers must be knowledgeable of the 2015 Standard to appropriately apply the requirements set out in that standard when undertaking the design and installation of onsite sewage systems.
The Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA) is delivering the required update course on the 2015 Standard of Practice. These courses will be provided at numerous locations around the province.
